Patiala/Fatehgarh Sahib: To ensure the quality of ongoing road construction projects across the state, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann conducted a surprise inspection today. During the inspection, three under-construction roads in Patiala and Fatehgarh Sahib districts were examined.
Strict Orders Issued After Flaws Detected
During the inspection, the Chief Minister detected irregularities in the construction work of the Reetkheri Link Road in Patiala district.
He collected road samples on the spot and expressed strong dissatisfaction over the failure to adhere to the prescribed standards.
Consequently, the Chief Minister immediately ordered officials to issue a Show Cause Notice to the contractor and immediately halt all payments due to the firm.
In addition, he also inspected the Patiala-Sirhind road and directed officials to get its samples tested in the laboratory. The construction work on the Rurki to Riouna Plan Road in Fatehgarh Sahib district was found to be satisfactory.
Emphasis on Rational Use of Public Money
The Chief Minister stated that the main objective of this surprise check is to ensure that the quality of roads being built across the state is high-grade.
”The state government is spending a huge amount on road construction, so it is our commitment to ensure that public money is used correctly and rationally.”
He further added that this campaign of surprise inspections will continue in the coming days.
Coordination is Essential
To minimize damage to roads in the future, the Chief Minister has asked all concerned departments to maintain proper coordination. Under this directive, all works related to sewerage lines, drinking water pipes, and fiber optic cables, etc., must be completed before the construction of the roads begins.
