The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has uncovered assets worth crores during raids on Punjab Police DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, who was arrested on charges of bribery. Officials recovered approximately ₹5 crore in cash, 1.5 kilograms of gold, several high-end luxury vehicles, and other valuable assets.

Bhullar, serving as the Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Ropar range, was caught red-handed while accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe from a scrap dealer. The payment was allegedly made to secure favorable treatment in a case involving the dealer and to prevent police action against his business.

According to the complaint, DIG Bhullar allegedly demanded a lump-sum payment of ₹8 lakh to “settle” the FIR and further sought regular monthly installments to allow Batta to continue operating his scrap business without interference from the police.

Acting on the evidence gathered, the CBI arrested DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar from his Mohali office and also took into custody Krishanu, the alleged middleman.

What followed was a stunning discovery:

  • ₹7.5 crore in cash recovered from Bhullar’s residence in Chandigarh
  • 2.5 kilograms of gold jewellery
  • 26 luxury watches, including premium brands like Rolex and Rado
  • Documents linked to more than 50 properties
  • Firearms, keys to luxury vehicles, imported liquor, and locker keys

Further searches at Bhullar’s farmhouse in Samrala led to the recovery of additional cash, liquor, and ammunition, while ₹21 lakh was seized from Krishanu, the alleged conduit in the bribery case.

Both DIG Bhullar and Krishanu were presented before a CBI court on Friday, which remanded them to 14 days of judicial custody. Speaking briefly to reporters outside the court, Bhullar expressed confidence in the judicial process, stating that he had faith the court would ensure justice.
