December 20, 2025, marks a significant day for the education sector in Punjab as the state government conducts its latest Mega Parent-Teacher Meeting (PTM) across all 19,000 government schools
This initiative, a cornerstone of the current administration’s education policy, aims to bridge the gap between teachers and parents to ensure the holistic development of nearly 2.7 million students.
📍 Key Highlights of the December 20 Mega PTM
The current Mega PTM is not just a meeting but a state-wide event designed to empower parents and celebrate student achievements.
Massive Scale: The meeting is being held simultaneously in approximately 19,000 government primary and upper-primary schools.

“Parental Participation” Workshops: For the first time, specialized workshops are being conducted to educate parents on how they can actively support their child’s learning at home.
Mission Samarth & FLN: Teachers are sharing progress reports based on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) and discussing “Mission Samarth” to help students catch up on core subjects.
Exhibitions: Many schools are hosting Business Blaster fairs and science exhibitions, where students showcase their entrepreneurial ideas and creative projects to their parents.
🎯 Primary Objectives
The Punjab Education Department, led by Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains, has outlined several goals for this “Mega” approach:

🚀 The “Education Revolution” in Punjab
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has frequently emphasized that these PTMs are part of a larger “Education Revolution.” By bringing a practice once exclusive to elite private schools into the government sector, the state aims to:
- Remove Socio-Economic Barriers: Ensure every child, regardless of background, receives parental and institutional support.
- Professional Training: Highlights the fact that teachers and principals are being sent to Singapore, Finland, and IIM Ahmedabad for world-class training to better guide these sessions.
- Community Ownership: Encouraging School Management Committees (SMCs) and local residents to take pride in their village schools.
💡 Why It Matters
For many parents in rural Punjab, this is often the first time they are invited into a classroom as partners rather than just visitors. This shift in culture is credited with increasing student attendance, reducing dropout rates, and improving the overall academic atmosphere in the state.
“The love and affection of the people and the coordination between parents and teachers are the keys to making Punjab’s education system world-class.” — CM Bhagwant Mann (December 19, 2025).
